It looks like a beautiful day today, so the five of us struck out into Acadia National Park again to fulfill our desires of things to see and do here. We tried again to get into Jordan's Pond but only to be rejected again today. There are so many cars here, but we had good luck at all the other places we visited today. I guess we will have to bring the shuttle bus in and spend some time here. We opted to go to Cadillac Mountain then, and found a good parking spot, by luck! Cadillac Mt. has an elevation of 1,530 feet, and is the highest peak, and tallest mountain on the Atlantic coast north of Brazil. It's busy here, too, but it gave us a chance to get a little hike in and see all around from the top. It was strange, as a fog was hanging over the islands below in the sea, and the longer we were there, the more the fog moved in, until finally we were socked in at the top! It was the coolest thing! We could see to drive back down, but we all were so pleased to be able to experience this phenomenon. We talked to a ranger and he said it happens ahead of a storm, but we didn't see anything coming in. We traveled back to Thunder Hole, where we had been yesterday, and with the high tide, we didn't hear the thunder and it didn't have the impact that it had yesterday in low tide. The waves were definitely more fierce today, though, at high tide. We ate dinner in town at Cherrystones, and it was delicious. We're tired tonight, so home early to see what lies ahead for tomorrow.
View from atop Cadillac Mountain, and the eerie but picturesque scene with the fog over the islands.
Mike and Greg showing off their strength. This is a boulder which is a remnant of the Wisconsin Glacier.
Jim and Mike walking the trail as the thick fog comes in on top of Cadillac Mountain.
Mike, Lori and Greg on the edge of the high granite cliffs, watching the tide come in.
The rugged cliffs, the fog and high tide.
