Time is running out, so Lori booked us on the Starfish Cruise out into the harbor of Bar Harbor. We were able to watch Diver Ed go down below to the ocean bottom and gather different species of the sea and bring them up for the children and 'big kids' to handle and inspect, up close. It was a very enjoyable 2 1/2 hours and Diver Ed was very entertaining! It was also good to see Bar Harbor from the water. In the afternoon, we took a ride on the quiet side, and it wasn't very quiet there, either! We found out that this week and next are the busiest for tourism on the island, and that their summer is very short. We have been blessed with gorgeous weather with an occasional shower, and then it clears up and we resume our fun things to do. We visited a lighthouse on the quiet side, and stopped at Thurston's on the Wharf for dinner. It was a very casual place and it sat out over the water. We seem to have no problem filling our days!
This is the Starfish Enterprise, that we took out into Bar Harbor for a fun morning with Diver Ed.
Diver Ed with all his gear to go down under.
Diver Ed putting 4 Starfish on Greg's head, and Greg using a Starfish for a mustache.
We stopped at the Bass Harbor Head Light Station, on the quiet side. We're as far south as we can go without taking a boat to an island.
We ate at Thurston's on the Wharf, on the quiet side of the island. It was very good.
Greg and Mike had to try the steamed lobster. I just can't quite acquire a taste for lobster tail, but I have tried it in a lobster dip (YUM), in a four seafood linguine dish (YUM), a lobster roll (YUM), and stew. The stew was like soup, and I questioned our waitress, but she said I needed to order chowder to get it thick. You can bet I will! It was still very tasty, so I wasn't totally disappointed.
