We live a charmed life! Today was very special, as we rode the shuttle bus out to Jordan's Pond for lunch. This is where the Rockefeller's had their mainstay for many years, and built carriage roads to and fro Jordan's Pond. The carriage roads were built from 1913 to 1940, and had unique stone bridges throughout. Those roads are still kept as the Rockefeller's had them, and are used for carriage rides, hiking or biking. They often came for afternoon popovers and tea to Jordan's Pond, and they are still a highlight on the menu. Everyone has to have one! You can fill it with ice cream, or put butter and strawberry jam on it! We all had a wonderful lunch and were ready to hike it off. We're still spending our days with our son and his family, and they will leave on Friday for Wisconsin. It's been great having them here, and we've made some great memories! The hike was 3.5 miles around Jordan's Pond, but we chose to do the huff and puff hike up to Bubble Rock, also. It's .4 of a mile 'about straight up' on some rocky steps, narrow crevices, and metal hand holds! The elevation climb was 768'. We made it, and have pictures to prove it! We ate dinner tonight at the Chart Room, and we all had a wonderful meal again. We either know how to pick them, or all the food out here is awesome! Our waitress loves the Packers and her boyfriend likes the Cowboys, so they are trying to get tickets for the December game in WI. She was pretty fun. I didn't post yesterday, as it got late and we mainly got caught up on our R & R. I made a rhubarb cake (Greg's favorite) for his birthday, of which we will miss in Sept. as we won't be back home yet. We had that last night for dessert. It was another 10 day!
Can you figure out the candles? Greg will be 12 on Sept. 3rd , so we have one candle and then two. It makes 12 in my eyes!
We ate outside under the umbrellas and the rounded mountains in the background are aptly named, The Bubbles. We hiked to the top of the one on the right. It's a piece of cake, right?
Our troops hiking the trail alongside the east side of Jordan's Pond. It was very level and nice until we came to the big climb!
The Eagles have landed! We reached the summit, but still a little ways to go to the Bubble Rock.
We really didn't want to push the rock over! It's up there for quite a while yet. Everyone tried to push it over, but then it would spoil it for everyone coming up after to find it gone! It is believed to be a rock that is a remnant of the glacier that moved through here, depositing it on this mountain top.
Crossing the water at the end of the pond to hike the western trail back to Jordan's Pond.
We had to walk the plank trail on the way back from doing the Bubble Rock hike. This went for about a mile, and was pretty neat. If you met someone, one of us had to get off and let the other one pass. I think we've been eating too well! This concludes today and I know, I'm over my quota for pictures, but I didn't send any yesterday! You can see what a fantastic day it was. We will all sleep well tonight.
